    Spacious apartments, attentive staff, activities

I moved my mom in and we're very pleased. Spacious 1-2BR apartments with a kitchen/den, attentive and caring staff (the manager is amazing), responsive maintenance, clean well-kept grounds, pet-friendly amenities and a pool, plus lots of activities - great value and I would recommend it to families.

    Summary of reviews

Solista Charlotte (Carmel Place) presents as an independent-living–focused community with a strong social culture and many operational strengths. Families and residents commonly praise the staff’s friendliness and personal attention, along with helpful move-in support and an ambassador program. Apartments are generally described as roomy and accessible, with onsite amenities such as courtyards, game rooms, salons, a library, and therapy services that support an active lifestyle. Many reviewers found the location convenient and the community to offer good value for the monthly cost.

Staff and caregiving: The workforce is frequently described as caring, personable, and attentive, with quick maintenance response and staff who know residents by name. There are repeated accounts of helpful front-desk personnel, servers, activities staff, and management who go beyond basic expectations. At the same time, reviews indicate operational strain at times—notably staffing shortages, turnover, and temporary use of agency or interim staff—which have been linked to service slowdowns and lapses in consistency. The community operates primarily as independent living with optional personal-care services; several reviewers emphasized that the site may not be well suited for residents who need regular, higher-acuity assisted-living or clinical supervision.

Dining and housekeeping: Dining is a mixed area. Many residents enjoy the restaurant-style dining room, social meal setting, and three-meal structure; some reviewers complimented particular meals and the chef. However, a clear pattern of inconsistent food quality, reduced variety, limited entrée choices, and occasional service delays emerges across accounts. Housekeeping and cleaning are often praised, but there are multiple mentions of variability—periods of high cleanliness contrasted with instances of missed cleaning or delayed housekeeping tied to staffing or management transitions.

Activities and community life: Activity programming is a major strength. The community offers a broad range of daily and weekly options—exercise classes, yoga, bridge and card games, book clubs, outings, parties, and themed events—that many residents find engaging and helpful for social integration. Reviewers consistently note a friendly resident population and a family-like atmosphere that reduces isolation.

Facilities and maintenance: Physical impressions are mixed. Many reviewers describe units and common areas as clean and well-maintained, and maintenance responsiveness is commonly praised. The building, however, is described by others as older and in need of selective updates; some halls and community spaces are perceived as dated or dim. Operationally, shared amenities such as laundry and parking have capacity or access limitations in some accounts.

Management and notable patterns: Management performance is uneven in the reviews. Several families commend management, clear billing assistance, and improved services under new leadership, while others note service disruption during ownership/management transitions and inconsistent communication with families during incidents. The combination of positive day-to-day staff interactions and intermittent operational problems suggests the community performs well when staffing and management are stable but is vulnerable to service degradation during transitions or periods of understaffing.

Bottom line: Solista Charlotte offers a socially active independent-living environment with many practical strengths—engaging programming, roomy apartments, responsive maintenance, and personable staff. Prospective residents who are largely independent and value an active community may find it a good fit and a reasonable value. Families considering placement should assess clinical needs carefully: if a resident requires regular assisted-living or close clinical oversight, or if consistent meal quality and housekeeping are high priorities, it is advisable to clarify current staffing levels, recent management changes, after-hours coverage, and meal/housekeeping service guarantees during a tour and trial visit.

    About Solista Charlotte

Solista Charlotte sits in a quiet suburban neighborhood in Charlotte, North Carolina, and offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, nursing, rehabilitation, and home health services, all on one campus for seniors who want to stay active but know help is there if needed, so you see folks get to pick what works for them as they age. The place really has a warm, friendly feeling with a home-like atmosphere, and staff like Sonja, Asa, Julie, and Chad work to make everyone feel welcome, and there's always something happening whether it's Bingo, crafts, bridge games, special events like the Easter Bonnet parade or Luau, or trips out to local spots-they really do a nice job making sure no one feels left out, and there are special programs like Melody & Masterpiece, Forever Fit, Pawsitive Health, and others to keep life interesting.

You'll find different apartments-studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom-each with private bathrooms, kitchenettes or even full kitchens, patios or balconies, climate controls, emergency call systems, and sometimes plush carpeting, and there's WiFi, cable TV, and all the basics you'd expect, plus each unit can be customized and there are new renovations popping up, so things stay fresh while still feeling cozy, and guests can stay overnight, which is handy if families visit. Common areas include a bar, a library, computer room, a theater, game rooms, bistro, and even a salon & barbershop, and the landscaping's nice too with gardens, places to walk, and patios to get some fresh air or visit with friends or pets-yes, pets are allowed and they even help with pet care.

When it comes to meals, residents get chef-prepared food in a dining room with three balanced meals a day and snacks, and they cater to needs including diabetic and vegetarian diets, and staff speak several languages like English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, so people from different backgrounds feel comfortable, and you can always bring guests to eat or join in events. Housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance are included, and transportation's available for shopping, events, and doctor's visits-there's a shuttle bus that helps seniors get out and about, and parking for those who drive, plus transportation is accessible for wheelchairs and walkers, so everyone can join in.

For safety, Solista Charlotte keeps things secure with staff supervision day and night, security guards, controlled access, emergency response systems in every room, medical call buttons, and regular wellness checks, so families can feel comfortable about their loved ones. The health services cover immunizations, hospice, podiatry, therapies like speech and physical therapy, and partnerships with home health providers, plus there's help with medications, bathing, and daily living if needed, but everyone gets the right level of help and no more, so people can stay independent as long as possible.

On-site amenities stretch across multiple floors with a big, welcoming lobby, lounges, coffee shop, business center, bar, conference rooms, and even a Wall of Honor for residents who've served in the military, and everything is wheelchair-accessible too. There are organized social outings, guest events, a lively ambassador program to welcome new residents, and a full calendar from fitness classes like Tai Chi and Yoga to music and learning groups, and specialized memory care or dementia programs that keep residents engaged. Payment choices include private pay, credit cards, checks, mobile pay, all-inclusive rent, Veterans Aid, and help with home sale or financial planning if needed, making moving in a little easier.

Led by Executive Director Julie McCraith and supported by dedicated caregivers, Solista Charlotte keeps its focus on fostering independence while making sure residents enjoy life and stay connected, no matter what stage they're at, and folks can schedule a tour to see available units and get a feel for the community before making any decisions.
