    Compassionate staff, excellent therapy, peaceful

I was very pleased with the care my mother received - compassionate, professional staff and attentive nurses with strong clinical knowledge. Daily physical/occupational therapy and excellent therapists helped her improve, management was responsive, and TeAirea Coleman went above and beyond. The facility was spotless and recently refurbished, COVID precautions were followed, communication was respectful, and her last days were peaceful.

    Summary of reviews

These reviews present a polarized picture of Selma Health and Rehab: several families describe attentive, skilled clinicians and therapists who aided recovery, while others report serious operational and safety concerns. Strengths cited include compassionate, patient-focused nursing, a capable physical- and occupational-therapy program, recently refurbished rooms, and generally positive dining experiences for some residents. Individual staff members were singled out for exemplary service, and some families reported improved clinical status and peaceful end-of-life care.

Care quality appears uneven. Positive accounts emphasize effective nursing and therapy interventions that contributed to measurable improvement. Conversely, other reviews raise concerns about medication administration processes, delays in responding to resident needs, and inconsistent care across shifts. There are also multiple references to fall-related injuries and transfer-safety problems, suggesting gaps in safe-mobility protocols and staff training that merit specific inquiry.

Staff performance is described as a mix of strengths and variability. Daytime and named staff are frequently characterized as polite, engaging, and timely; however, reviewers also note inattentiveness, unanswered call signals, and marked differences between shifts (notably nights). These patterns point to staffing and supervision inconsistencies rather than uniformly poor or uniformly excellent conduct.

Dining and daily-access issues appear similarly mixed. Several reviewers praised the food quality and meal service, while others reported meals not served on schedule and difficulty obtaining drinks or snacks between meals. These accounts suggest intermittent breakdowns in meal-service continuity and resident access to nourishment.

Facility and infection-control observations are divergent. Some reviewers described clean, well-maintained common areas and refurbished rooms. Other accounts allege sanitation failures, infection-control lapses (including transmission concerns), and inconsistent use of personal protective equipment, with at least one review linking such issues to a hospital transfer. These are significant operational concerns that bear verification through inspection records and facility policies.

Management and operational practices show recurrent themes: inconsistent communication with families, problems tracking and returning residents' personal items and laundry, and slow or insufficient clinical incident escalation. Allegations of theft and property loss further indicate weaknesses in property-inventory and accountability systems. Together with reported variability in rehab access, these themes point to systemic process gaps rather than isolated personnel problems.

Notable patterns: the facility elicits strongly positive experiences from some families and serious safety or service concerns from others. Prospective residents and family members should consider an on-site visit at different times of day (including evenings/nights), ask for current infection-control policies, medication-administration protocols, staffing ratios, fall-prevention and transfer procedures, and documentation of property/laundry controls. Reviewing recent inspection reports and speaking directly with therapy, nursing, and administrative leadership can help clarify which of the divergent patterns are more characteristic of current operations.

    About Selma Health and Rehab

Selma Health and Rehab sits about two miles outside the town of Selma, Alabama, at 11 Bell Road, and is a very large senior living and rehab community with 172 beds, offering assisted living, nursing home care, and rehabilitation services, all under one roof, and you've got options for fully furnished studio suites with private bathrooms and kitchenettes, so you can keep some privacy and independence while also getting the help you might need. The nursing home's got a 1-star rating from Medicare & Medicaid Services, but even with that, it's known as the second highest-rated community in Selma, holding an average review of 5.3 out of 10 and a 2.9 from general online feedback, which just gives a bit of a real picture of how people see this place, so you know it's got both its good and less good parts. The place covers everything from assisted living-help with daily activities, meals, personal care, and medication management-to whole-person skilled nursing with 24-hour care, plus rehabilitation that goes a step further by using advanced technology like AI-driven therapy, virtual reality systems such as ROBERTยฎ and Neuro VR, and even robotic therapy devices, all aimed at keeping therapy engaging, especially for folks recovering from a stroke, orthopedic injuries, brain injuries, and for those with conditions like multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injuries. The staff's got registered dieticians planning meals, even taking care of special diets like for diabetes, and there's a dining room with restaurant-style options, all set up to make things feel more comfortable and a bit homey. The facility's got a beauty salon, a computer center with Wi-Fi, a small library, a gaming room, and outdoor sunlit courtyards, which means folks spend time in fresh air and can enjoy a garden or just look at the flowers and trees, plus there's regular housekeeping, move-in help, and concierge services for errands and daily needs, so people don't need to worry much about the small stuff. There's a whole set of activity programs with trips into the local area, fitness groups, community-sponsored events, and family outreach plus counseling services, which helps everyone stay social and supported. Residents can use transportation provided for appointments, shopping, or even a visit to a cafรฉ or their physician nearby. The skilled medical staff keeps an eye on everyone, with help for bathing and dressing, detailed medication management, wound care, and memory care for those with Alzheimer's, plus extra support for people needing long-term, outpatient, or respite care, which means temporary relief for caregivers. There's a strong focus on making the place welcoming, comforting and safe, promoting dignity and independence, and the building itself feels both large and meant for community, with lots of places for people to gather or find quiet. There's help for mental wellness too, like therapy sessions and emotional programs, and they accept people for addiction recovery and family counseling, and if needed, provide hospice care as well, all under a model set by the larger Arabella Health & Wellness network. All in all, Selma Health and Rehab gives many medical and social services for older adults or those needing rehabilitation near Selma, with a focus on technology, nursing, and personalized help, though like any large facility, the experience can depend on many things, from the care situation to the day-to-day staff, but there's a clear intent to keep folks safe, engaged, and as comfortable as possible.
