    Friendly caring clean community recommended

I toured Brookside Glen and I'm very pleased - the staff are friendly, compassionate and communicative, keeping our family informed and accommodating dietary needs. The community feels clean and home-like with engaging activities, a welcoming dog, private rooms and attentive nursing that gave my dad real peace of mind. Management is responsive and caring; I'd recommend a visit to see if it's the right fit for your loved one.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a mixed but thematically consistent picture of Brookside Glen Assisted Living and Memory Care. Many families and visitors praised the day-to-day caregiving: direct-care staff are frequently described as warm, caring, and attentive, and multiple accounts emphasize that staff provide compassionate, patient support. The facility offers a homelike environment with clean resident rooms (including private rooms with en-suite bathrooms and refrigerators), welcoming common areas, and accessible outdoor spaces. Security measures and resident autonomy in the memory-care unit were highlighted positively. On-site programming such as outings, an activity bus, and interactions with a house dog contributed to improved mood and engagement for several residents.

Dining and nutritional support appear to be a relative strength in many accounts. The facility provides three meals daily plus snacks, and kitchen staff have been noted to accommodate dietary restrictions and to solicit resident preferences. Several families reported improvements in meal service over time and constructive communication from the culinary team. At the same time, some reviewers described inconsistent enjoyment of meals and occasional service hiccups, indicating variability in food quality and meal-service continuity.

Despite these strengths, there are clear operational concerns that recur across reviews. Staffing consistency is a prominent issue: understaffing, the use of temporary aides or sitters to provide basic assistance, and uneven staff coverage were reported. These staffing patterns are associated with activity cancellations or schedules not being followed, leaving residents idle at times. Safety-related issues—primarily falls and subsequent emergency visits—suggest gaps in fall-prevention practices and clinical-incident oversight; families also reported uneven communication following incidents.

Management and leadership stability emerged as another notable theme. Several reviewers described leadership turnover, an unstable executive-director position, and instances where higher-level concerns were perceived as insufficiently addressed. Conversely, other accounts cited proactive management behaviors, helpful admissions processes, and staff who followed up on affordability options—indicating variability in administrative responsiveness.

Facility condition feedback was similarly mixed. Many found the building clean and well-kept, appreciating private and spacious rooms as well as shared community spaces. However, others noted aging aspects of the facility and odor concerns in certain staff or common areas (including pet-related and stale smoke odors), along with isolated sanitation concerns such as a staff break-room issue. These comments suggest that some aesthetic and housekeeping standards may be uneven between areas.

In summary, Brookside Glen presents strengths in caregiving culture, individualized attention, and a homelike atmosphere with engaging programming for many residents. At the same time, families should be aware of operational variability: inconsistent staffing and activity delivery, leadership turnover, episodic management responsiveness, and some safety and facility-maintenance gaps. Prospective families may benefit from focused questions during a tour—staffing ratios at different times of day, recent staff turnover, fall-prevention protocols and incident-communication procedures, examples of recent activity schedules and adherence, and recent maintenance or odor-remediation efforts—to determine whether the current operational practices align with their loved one’s needs.

About Brookside Glen Assisted Living and Memory Care

Brookside Glen Assisted Living and Memory Care sits in a quiet part of Columbus, GA, where residents stay in spacious apartments that let in plenty of light, and there are both private and semi-private rooms, so folks have choices about where they want to live, whether they want more privacy or to share space, and the apartments come with emergency call systems, private bathrooms, and choices for studios, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom, which can really help seniors feel at home. Staff stay available 24/7 to help with things like medication, bathing, dressing, meals, or just to give a friendly hand when someone needs it, and the place has strong safety features, including advanced security systems and emergency response protocols, which helps those facing issues like dementia or wandering risks, especially in the Memory Care suites where the environment stays secure and calm day and night. People eat chef-prepared meals together or in private, with menus made to fit special dietary needs and allergy concerns, and there's always plenty of food with Southern favorites, so everyone can find something they like, and if someone feels like eating at a different time, the restaurant-style dining makes that easy too.

The folks at Brookside Glen get to enjoy Wi-Fi around the place and can use the common spaces-a library, an arts room for painting or drawing, a lounge, a cozy sitting area around a fireplace, and even a porch with rocking chairs where people can chat or just watch the world go by, and if they need a haircut or just want some pampering, the onsite beauty and barber salon is handy. The activity calendar covers a lot, including fitness programs, arts and crafts, group games, educational workshops, spiritual services, movie nights, outings to local Columbus attractions, and walking paths and gardens if someone wants fresh air or a gentle stroll outside. Weston Group provides therapy onsite for those in Assisted Living, while the Memory Care program uses Enlighten therapy services focused on support for people with dementia or Alzheimer's, and special activities help reduce confusion or prevent wandering.

Housekeeping, laundry, prompt maintenance, and regular reminders for appointments or medication come standard, and with the concierge service, residents can easily get rides to appointments, shopping, or community events in the area. For health care, there's assistance for diabetes, non-ambulatory needs, and incontinence, so people can stay comfortable and cared for as their needs change. There's a one-time entry fee of $950, and the facility is licensed under the state with a set caregiver-to-resident ratio to make sure everyone gets attention and support. Overall, Brookside Glen offers assisted living, memory care, and some home health care, all in a setting that tries to make seniors feel both safe and engaged, with enough activities and comforts so each person can live life with a sense of belonging, whether they like to be active or just want a quiet spot to relax.
