    Warm caring professional dignified care

I stayed here with my mom for about four weeks and was very satisfied - the staff were consistently caring, respectful, and treated her like family. The rehab team (PT/OT) helped her regain strength and confidence, meals were good, rooms and grounds were beautiful and clean, and Evette's activities and Gloria's hands-on care made the stay warm and welcoming. Administration, social services, nurses and CNAs were responsive and professional; I'd recommend Ridgecrest for dignified, high-quality care.

    Summary of reviews

The reviews present a mixed but informative picture of Ridgecrest Rehab & Skilled Nursing Center. Strengths are most prominent in its clinical and rehabilitative offerings: the facility provides a broad set of on-site services (physician coverage, pharmacy, speech-language pathology, physical and occupational therapy) and many families describe meaningful functional gains and weight improvement during short rehabilitation stays. Social services, therapy teams, and many CNAs are frequently characterized as proactive, compassionate, and effective in promoting independence and coordinating discharge planning.

Staff behavior and care delivery are described unevenly. Numerous accounts praise individual caregivers, therapists, and administrators for attentiveness and clear communication; however, other accounts identify patterns of inconsistent nursing responsiveness and concerns about medication processes and catheter care. Several reviews point to understaffing or a skeleton crew at times, which reviewers link to delays in care and the need for family vigilance. There are also recurring notes about variability in staff toneโ€”while some frontline employees are described as warm and welcoming, others (including supervisory personnel in a few accounts) are described as brusque or dismissive.

Dining, activities, and the physical environment are often cited as positives. Many families appreciate the meals, themed activities, daily activity updates, and particular activity leaders who run engaging programming (movies, ice cream socials, bingo, holiday events). The facility is also described as clean, attractively decorated, and comfortable, with several mentions of large, well-appointed rooms. That said, there are isolated concerns about meal service timing and food temperature, and at least one account flagged accessibility of meals for residents during service.

Operational and management-level issues emerge as consistent themes. Transportation coordination for off-site specialist visits appears to be unreliable in some instances, creating missed appointments and requiring family intervention. Medication-management processes and clinical-incident response (including timeliness of assessment and escalation) are also areas of concern for some families. Communication from admissions and certain administrative lines (phone responsiveness, voicemail handling) is described as inconsistent.

A further pattern is variability by unit or building: some reviewers describe a modern, well-kept, even brand-new environment with outstanding service, while others describe older units with limited outdoor space and fewer amenities. This suggests that experience can vary depending on location within the campus or the particular unit and staff on duty.

Overall, Ridgecrest demonstrates clear strengths in rehabilitation services, therapy, social-work support, and facility aesthetics. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against reported variability in nursing responsiveness, staffing levels, medication and catheter-care processes, and transportation coordination. When evaluating Ridgecrest, visitors may find it helpful to ask about current staffing levels, medication- and catheter-care protocols, transportation arrangements for medical appointments, and to observe mealtime and activity periods to assess consistency firsthand.

Ridgecrest Rehab & Skilled Nursing Center is located at 8329 Steven's Ln, Columbus, GA, 31909.

About Ridgecrest Rehab & Skilled Nursing Center

Ridgecrest Rehab & Skilled Nursing Center sits as a single-story building, licensed by the State of Georgia and operated by the Hospital Authority of Columbus, Georgia, with a total capacity of 84 certified beds and serving about 110 residents. The center focuses on skilled nursing and comprehensive rehabilitation, providing care for both short-term and long-term residents, including those recovering from illness, surgery, or requiring ongoing support because of serious health needs. Residents get help with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, incontinence care, and transfers, along with memory care and palliative services for those who need it. The Creekside Long Term Residential neighborhood offers 42 beds dedicated for people who need skilled nursing and assistance with daily activities, while the Evergreen Rehabilitation neighborhood has 42 private rooms focused on therapy and recovery. Ridgecrest also runs a Therapy Gym with a setup like a resident's own bedroom, which helps make the move back to independent living safer.

The nursing staff provides 24-hour care and support, overseen by a registered nurse, although staffing levels sometimes fall below the required state standards for total nursing and aide care. On average, nurse turnover sits at 43.6%, which is lower than most nursing facilities statewide, and nursing hours per resident are a bit higher than the state average. Services include medication management, physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as respiratory therapy and behavioral health care. The staff also helps with hospice and advanced care planning, working to tailor services to each resident's needs. For nutrition, Ridgecrest offers home-cooked, seasonal menus and special diets approved by a Registered Dietitian. Residents have access to several dining areas, a movie theater, a library, game room, and enjoy programs like arts and music, fitness, and outdoor activities, including the Engaged Life activities program, which promotes creativity, connection, and exercise based on residents' interests.

Ridgecrest accepts Medicaid and Medicare and aims to provide a welcoming and safe environment, though there are some important areas for improvement. Inspection reports have noted deficiencies in care planning, respecting advance directives, handling residents' rights to self-administer drugs, and in some infection-control practices. The facility has been cited for not always having complete and measurable care plans, sometimes not honoring requests to refuse or discontinue treatment, and not always meeting infection-control standards. Even so, Ridgecrest continues to focus on patient-centered support and offers a range of services to help residents live with dignity and purpose in a community that feels like home. The center includes outdoor courtyards, landscaped grounds, and places for social events. Ridgecrest tries to create a nurturing setting where residents can enjoy daily life, receive rehabilitation, and get the nursing care they need.
