    Mother flourishing with excellent care

My mother has lived at Spring Harbor for years and I'm very pleased - beautifully appointed, landscaped campus, welcoming staff who go above and beyond, excellent dining, and a nonstop roster of activities and entertainment that keep her social and engaged. With responsive care, great amenities (gym, pool, theater, on-site therapy) and a true sense of community, she's flourishing and we have real peace of mind.

    Summary of reviews

Spring Harbor at Green Island is presented in reviews as an amenity-rich, well-maintained continuing-care community with many attributes families and residents value. The campus, common areas and independent-living units are frequently described as attractive, immaculately presented and customizable; villas and larger apartments draw praise for size and finishes. The property offers a broad palette of on-site amenities—including an indoor pool and Jacuzzi, salon and spa services, theater, library, bank, gift shop, and multiple dining venues—which supports a resort-like daily life and many social options.

Clinical and rehabilitative resources are a clear strength for many residents: reviewers highlight an on-site physician/gerontologist presence, a well-regarded therapy and rehab department, and a full continuum of care that includes assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing. Housekeeping, concierge and maintenance functions are frequently described as responsive, and transportation and organized outings contribute to a high level of social engagement. Activities programming is extensive and structured, with exercise classes, water aerobics, arts and crafts, performances, trips to cultural events, and an all-day schedule on weekdays that supports active lifestyles.

At the same time, a consistent cluster of operational concerns appears across reviews. Staffing levels and consistency emerge as an issue—families cite periods of short staffing and variability in nursing coverage—and medication-administration timing and reliability are noted as uneven. Several comments point to staff conduct and communication tone that families found unprofessional in certain interactions, and there are mentions of lapses in infection-control adherence (masking and related practices) during the pandemic. Cleanliness and kitchen/service-area standards are described positively by many but flagged as inconsistent by others, indicating variability in housekeeping or back-of-house operations. Reviewers also note that some amenity features (for example, garages) are available only in certain building types, creating unevenness across the campus.

Management and cost are recurring themes. The community’s nonprofit life-care buy-in model and comprehensive offerings appeal to families seeking long-term assurance, but the initial financial commitment and ongoing fees are described as high and a barrier for some. Communication and transparency from management are praised by many but criticized by others; concerns include perceived lack of responsiveness, staff retention issues, and disputes following staff or family complaints. Security and visitor-identification procedures are also mentioned as areas where policies or enforcement feel inconsistent to some residents and guests.

In summary, Spring Harbor at Green Island delivers a high level of amenities, clinical resources and social programming that many residents and families find reassuring and life-enhancing. Prospective residents should weigh the strong clinical and lifestyle offerings against recurring operational themes—staffing consistency, medication administration reliability, infection-control practices, cleanliness standards in some service areas, management communication, and overall cost—and explore these topics directly during a tour and discussions with leadership to assess current performance and fit for individual needs.

About Spring Harbor at Green Island

Spring Harbor at Green Island sits on 40 landscaped acres with gardens, a pond, palm trees, and a little bridge over a creek, and it's got a grand multi-story building with balconies and green views all around, so folks can walk outside and see lots of pretty spots wherever they go, a nice covered entrance for arrivals, and inside there are open lobbies with big ceilings, cozy fireplaces, sofas, soft lights, a grand piano, chandeliers, and plenty of quiet places to sit and read, chat, or rest. Spring Harbor's a not-for-profit Continuing Care Retirement Community, so people find independent living, personal care, memory support, and skilled nursing all in the same place. They've got apartments and garden villas for independent folks, and when care needs change, the Life Care plan means you don't pay more for extra care as time goes by, and you won't have to move away from the community you know. The staff's professional and compassionate, including a Director of Operations with a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and a Director of Healthcare Operations keeping everything on track. The skilled nursing area's five-star rated, and there's a health center, memory care suites for anyone with Alzheimer's or other dementia, plus short- and long-term healthcare.

Residents join a welcoming neighborhood called the Harbor Club, and there are always things to do-activity calendars fill up with outings, exercise, arts and crafts, reading, games, movies in the theater, woodworking, swimming in the heated pool, using the jacuzzi or gym, eating in four different dining venues, and events in the ballroom or out on the patio near fire pits. People can get dry cleaning, catering, transportation, and regular help with housekeeping, too. There's an on-site library, business center, cafe, and plenty of spots for hobbies or religious, cultural, and educational programs. Home Health and Care offers non-medical help and companionship for those who want it at home, and Assisted Living services help with dressing, bathing, and medicine management if you need it, with privacy and support both. Memory Support offers special areas and therapies for people with confusion, with plans in place to keep everyone calm and safe.

They've welcomed residents since 2005, focusing on giving each person meaningful days, independence, social connections, and a sense of purpose. Folks have access to high-speed Wi-Fi, handicap accessible spaces, close pets, parking, and staff that know how to meet different needs as people age. Maintenance and security are always around, and there are guided group outings called "island excursions" for those who want to get out and about. Whether someone's after independent retirement living with hotel-like hospitality or looking for skilled nursing, memory care, or something in between, Spring Harbor at Green Island offers a full range of elder care services in one established, well-kept place with a close-knit community feel.
