    Warm compassionate care, comfortable living

I moved in after a poor experience elsewhere and I'm very pleased. The staff and management are caring, thoughtful, and responsive - they treat residents like family and adapt smoothly as needs change, which gives me real peace of mind and better sleep. The old Georgian home is warm and welcoming, apartments lovely, meals healthy and delicious, and programs (lectures, concerts, trips) are stimulating without being infantilizing. A well-run, compassionate small community I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression The Cambridge Homes is described consistently as a warm, well-run residential community with strong emphasis on personalized, respectful care. Reviews emphasize a welcoming, family-like culture and staff who are both emotionally engaged and attentive to changing resident needs. The facility’s program mix and physical environment appear designed to support intellectual engagement and social connection as core elements of daily life.

Care and staff Care quality is a repeated strength in the reviews: staff are characterized as compassionate, dedicated, and responsive, with an ability to adapt care plans as residents’ needs evolve. Reviewers specifically note that staff create reassurance and ‘‘peace of mind’’ for families, and some describe improved resident sleep and overall well-being after moving in. Individual staff members and frontline caregiving are highlighted as a central reason families feel comfortable with transitions and ongoing care.

Dining and activities Dining receives favorable mention, with food quality described as good to excellent and management attentive to resident preferences. The activity program is notable for its intellectual focus—lectures, historical presentations (including references to regional history), and concerts are regularly offered—alongside a broader cultural calendar. Several accounts praise programming that treats residents with adult dignity rather than patronizing approaches; live music and lecture series are recurring positives.

Facilities and management The physical setting—an older Georgian-style house in a well-maintained building—contributes to the ‘‘home-like’’ atmosphere reviewers value. Apartments and common areas are described as attractive and comfortable, and the facility is praised for being welcoming to family visitors. Management and administrative staff are characterized as thoughtful and communicative, with helpful follow-up after events and resident presentations.

Notable patterns and recommended inquiries The dominant theme across reviews is strong relational care, robust social and intellectual programming, and an environment that feels like a private home. Areas for prospective residents and families to investigate further include the extent of on-site specialized medical or high-acuity services, the specific scope and structure of any memory-care programming, and how the historic building has been adapted for accessibility and mobility needs. Those considering The Cambridge Homes should ask about 24/7 clinical coverage, lift/transfer resources, and any recent accessibility upgrades to ensure the physical plant and clinical services align with their long-term care expectations.

    About The Cambridge Homes

The Cambridge Homes sits in a historic Georgian-style building and has served the Cambridge area for over 125 years as a not-for-profit senior living community, and the place feels relaxed, with well-landscaped grounds, fireplaces, and plenty of light in both indoor and outdoor common areas. Residents pick between independent living and assisted living apartments, and studios come with private bathrooms, kitchenette areas, and the option to be unfurnished if someone prefers their own things, plus there are one-bedroom units. The building has elevators, safety features like an emergency call system, and wheelchair accessible showers, so mobility's less of a worry.

The care team, including their Resident Care Director Linda Powell, helps with different needs, such as assisted living, memory care, nursing and rehab, short-term and respite care, and home care. Skilled nursing and personal care services support residents 24 hours a day when needed. Specialized therapies like physical, occupational, speech, and even pet therapy are available. The programs let aging in place happen, and there's medication management, personal care, and hospice services too. The dining experience is restaurant-style with a professional chef who prepares international meals, and they can cook low or no sodium, gluten-free, low sugar, vegetarian, and other special diets. Residents can invite guests to meals or use the private dining room for family visits. Housekeeping, laundry, and basic tech support take chores off the to-do list, and there's transportation at cost, some complimentary trips, easy access to bus lines, and parking for those who drive.

There's always activity, with an Activities Director planning a full calendar of events, social gatherings, crafts, games, educational classes-especially about technology-discussion groups, and outings. There's a strong connection to the community, and residents or volunteers often organize the library, people to appointments, or help with errands, and even deliver blessing bags for charity. The place has a meeting room, a game room, a fitness center, devotional services, music with a piano or organ, hair salon, and an outdoor patio garden where people enjoy the fresh air or do some gardening. The Cambridge Homes also partners with groups like The Longy School of Music of Bard College and offers both onsite and offsite programs, so there's always something to do, whether someone likes cultural, educational, wellness, or spiritual activities.

People can stay for a trial without a minimum stay, and there are options for those who need short-term respite. Memory care reduces confusion for residents who need it. Services can also fit folks living at home or those who need more help, and the community welcomes volunteers from the neighborhood to stay connected. Photos, videos, and floor plans are available for people to look at beforehand, and the community gets support from an active board of directors and a dedicated team. The Cambridge Homes is part of Senior Living Residences with sister communities in nearby states and keeps the focus on security, companionship, and letting residents stay as independent as possible while enjoying the company of others in a comfortable setting.
