    Homey, friendly independent living community

I live at Chandler Place and I'm glad I moved here - a well-maintained, village-like community with friendly, professional staff who really listen and coordinate outside medical services when needed. My one-person apartment is perfect, with free on-floor laundry, good and reasonably priced dining (continental breakfast and à la carte options), clean common areas, lots of activities (outings, bingo, movies, happy hour), and pleasant, social neighbors. The grounds - fountain, walking paths and garden plots - add to the homey feel; I'd recommend it for independent living and respite stays.

    Summary of reviews

Chandler Place presents as a longstanding, continuously operated senior-living community with a clear emphasis on independent living while maintaining access to assisted and memory-care services. Many families described friendly, welcoming common areas, active social programming, and an organized set of amenities — including exercise spaces, community rooms, garden plots, outdoor walking areas, and indoor parking. Apartment styles and sizes vary from modest one-bedroom units to larger apartments with full kitchens; renovations and unit updates are ongoing in parts of the building.

Care and staffing are frequently cited as strengths. Reviewers noted caring, attentive staff and helpful nursing coordination, including assistance arranging OT/PT and other external medical services. Short-term respite and rehabilitation stays were described positively by several families. At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns: responsiveness can be variable during busy times, some families noted delays in medication timing, and periodic short-staffing appears to affect service consistency. Communication and transparency around care needs, availability, and transitions to higher levels of care were also described as areas that could be improved.

Dining receives mixed but specific feedback. The community offers multiple dining venues, menu choices, and a la carte options; many reviewers praised the food and menu variety, while others experienced inconsistent preparation (over-seasoning or overcooking noted) and occasional service lapses. There were also mentions of specific sanitation concerns in common/dining-adjacent storage areas and instances where table cleanup or food-removal timing could be improved. Prospective residents should inquire about current dining oversight and menu-sample options during a tour.

Social life and activities are consistently described as robust. Organized events (bingo, movies, happy hour, outings, faith services), volunteer opportunities, and resident-led functions contribute to a lively community atmosphere. Staff engagement with residents — greeting by name, encouraging participation, and supporting volunteer roles — was highlighted as a positive cultural feature.

Facilities are generally seen as well maintained; reviewers appreciated grounds, fountain, and outdoor spaces. However, the building is older in places: some units have dated or dark decor, and ongoing renovations have created temporary disruptions (portable air conditioners or equipment in hallways). Apartment pricing and fee structure are areas of concern for some families: several commenters noted extra charges for specific services, a complex a la carte pricing model, and perceptions of value mismatch for certain floor plans.

In summary, Chandler Place appears well suited to independent residents who value an active social program, on-site amenities, and continuity of care within a single campus. The staff and clinical coordination are often commended, and the community offers useful rehab/respite capabilities. Families evaluating the community should ask specific questions about current staffing levels, medication administration practices, dining oversight, fee schedules, and unit availability to assess fit — particularly for residents who require higher-intensity or closely managed clinical care.
