    Supportive staff, spotless facility, caring

I placed my brother-in-law here and have been very pleased. The staff are kind and positive, and the DON was especially supportive - she even inspired me to pursue nursing. The facility is spotless with no odors; my mom was always clean and dressed in her own clothes. Homemade meals and pudding created fond memories. A very nice, caring place to live.

    Summary of reviews

Myers Nursing Home & Center elicits a mixed set of impressions. Families and a number of reviewers describe genuinely attentive clinical care from particular staff members, including a director of nursing who is viewed as supportive and several direct-care staff praised for compassionate, hands-on assistance. Some residents and relatives describe the facility as a comfortable place to live with meaningful, long-term relationships between residents and staff, and they note that personal-care tasks such as dressing and grooming are performed consistently for certain residents.

Dining and daily-life impressions are similarly mixed. Positive comments highlight homemade meals and desserts that some families appreciated. At the same time, there are operational concerns around activities and engagement: reviewers describe limited organized outings and an overall lack of activity programming, which suggests opportunities to strengthen social and recreational offerings for residents.

Multiple operational and environmental issues recur in the comments. Reviewers raise pest-control concerns and inconsistencies in overall cleanliness and sanitation; relatedly, laundry and linen management are described as unreliable. There are also facility-level safety and equipment issues noted, including lapses in oxygen-equipment maintenance and oversight of residents' footwear and basic safety needs. Space constraints and crowded rooms were mentioned, which may affect resident comfort and privacy.

Staffing and management present a variable picture. Several families praised specific caregiving staff and some shifts for prompt, respectful responses; however, other comments describe inconsistent responsiveness, curt telephone interactions, and a disagreeable customer-service tone on certain occasions. Reviewers express concern about variability in leadership conduct and communication, with mentions of unprofessional behavior by some administrators and uneven owner engagement. Billing and Medicaid-related communication gaps and restrictions around volunteers were also raised as administrative issues that could affect family experience and resident programming.

Overall, prospective residents and families should weigh the facility's demonstrated strengths in individual caregiver relationships and home-style meals against recurrent operational weaknesses in sanitation practices, pest control, laundry, activity programming, equipment maintenance, and leadership consistency. If considering this facility, a useful next step would be an in-person visit focused on current cleanliness and pest-control measures, staff responsiveness across multiple shifts, activity offerings, and clarification of billing/Medicaid policies and equipment-maintenance protocols.

About Myers Nursing Home & Center

Myers Nursing Home & Center, also called Myers Nursing & Convalescent Center, sits at 2315 Walrond Avenue in Kansas City, Missouri, right in a car-dependent part of town near shops, restaurants, gas stations, and pharmacies, though it's got some public transit if folks need it, and the building itself holds 84 certified beds and usually has about 73 residents a day. This is a for-profit nursing and rehab community where seniors get round-the-clock nursing care, whether they need short-term help after a hospital stay or more long-term support with daily needs like bathing, dressing, taking medicine, or getting from bed to a chair, and there's always assistance with transfers for folks with mobility challenges and wheelchair-accessible spaces so no one's left out.

The staff includes friendly nurses and caregivers, with the nurse-to-resident ratio sitting around 1.58 nurse hours each day per resident, so someone's always checking in or helping out, and a 24-hour call system makes sure help is close at hand if something comes up. The building's kept clean by regular housekeeping, and residents' clothes get washed by in-house laundry services, and if folks need a little more, there's dry cleaning and family support, too. Rooms are simple but comfortable, often furnished with private bathrooms, cable TV, air conditioning, high-speed Wi-Fi, and even kitchenettes for those who want them, and every resident gets a telephone so staying in touch isn't hard.

Food here is prepared by trained chefs who focus on solid, nutritious meals made from quality ingredients that try to fit allergy or diabetic needs when folks have them, served in a restaurant-style dining room with all-day options, usually one or two meal sittings each day, and meals can be adjusted for dietary reasons if need be. Myers Nursing Home & Center's known for its memory care, offering specialized help for folks with dementia or Alzheimer's, and there are extra programs and activities designed to keep everyone as connected and engaged as possible, whether that's music, movie nights in a small theater, arts in a special room, group exercises in a fitness and wellness center, or just simple outdoor programs in peaceful gardens or along the walking paths.

The general tone around the place is described as happy and welcoming, with the administrator, Khaheem Coley, making sure that staff stay kind and supportive, and residents have a choice between community-sponsored activities, outings, a community game room, a library for reading, a community garden, and plenty of quiet spots to visit with neighbors or family. People tend to say the staff look out for each other and the folks living there, creating a steady environment without a lot of stress.

The place passes federal standards for infection control but has recorded 6 infection-related deficiencies and a total of 68 deficiencies in inspection reports kept by Medicare and Medicaid authorities, so while the staff keeps working on these issues, it's good to look over inspection details if you want to understand the latest standing. Myers Nursing Home & Center takes both Medicaid and Medicare for payment. The building offers on-site healthcare with general care and regular visits from physicians, along with rehabilitation for seniors coming out of the hospital, and personalized plans for wellness and activities.

There's help for folks who want to stay active through exercise or group activities, and there's always someone around to help with organizing moves and coordinating care, whether that means help with groceries, arranging transportation and parking, or making sure those with memory problems get the extra support they need. Even though not everything about Myers Nursing & Convalescent Center is spelled out online, families can use a free local advisor for more details if something's unclear.

This is a straightforward nursing and rehab home where the services center around care and safety, the food's prepared in-house, the rooms are set up for daily living, and the days are filled with social and wellness activities, with memory care and basic medical support all under one roof.
