    Warm professional staff; spotless facility

I moved my dad here and I'm very pleased: warm, professional, responsive staff (Patrice goes above and beyond), spotless, welcoming facility with spacious furnished apartments and balconies, excellent on-site therapy/medical services, salon/podiatry, plenty of activities and outings, flexible dining - residents seem happy and I'd recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Esplanade Staten Island presents as a well-kept, hospitality-oriented senior community with a strong emphasis on cleanliness, appearance, and social programming. Many reviewers describe a resort-like atmosphere, newly renovated rooms in portions of the building, and consistently praised front-desk and dining-room service. The facility signals an intentional hospitality model (converted-hotel layout, furnished options, decorative common areas) that supports an active, socially engaged resident population.

Care and clinical services: The community offers a range of on-site clinical supports including physicians, podiatry, in-unit physical therapy, and availability of nursing or home-health aides. Reviewers frequently highlight responsive caregivers and therapy partners who assist with rehabilitation and routine medical needs. However, clinical support beyond scheduled therapy appears to follow a fee-based model in some cases; families should confirm what level of daily hands-on assistance is included versus available only for an additional charge. The facility’s model may be better suited to residents who are relatively independent or require intermittent clinical services rather than continuous, high-dependency personal care.

Staff and management: Staff professionalism, friendliness, and responsiveness are recurrent strengths in the reviews. Many descriptions emphasize staff who learn residents’ names, accommodate specific room requests, and coordinate outings and appointments. Administration and maintenance receive positive notes for accessibility and problem resolution. At the same time, reviewers indicate variability over time in staffing quality, with references to past staffing problems later replaced by newer, well-regarded caregivers. Prospective residents should assess current staffing stability and turnover when touring.

Dining and food services: Dining at the community is characterized by flexibility—set menus alongside à la carte options, daily specials, and the ability for visitors to purchase meals. Opinions on food quality are mixed: some reviewers call meals excellent and varied, while others note inconsistent quality and a perceived lack of fresh vegetables on some menus. Families who place a high priority on specific dietary standards or fresh-produce availability should request meal samples and inquire about menu rotation and medical-diet accommodations.

Activities and social life: The activity program is a clear strength. The facility offers a broad schedule including bingo, card games, book club, arts and crafts, exercise classes, concerts, church trips, and offsite excursions. A social director and organized event calendar contribute to a lively community environment that reviewers frequently cite as central to resident satisfaction.

Facilities and amenities: Physical facilities receive positive comments for cleanliness, tasteful artwork, and updated decor in many units. On-site amenities such as a hair salon, beauty services, laundry, secure guest sign‑in, outdoor terraces, and a shuttle service add convenience. That said, some apartment types are described as small, and reviews note ongoing renovation work with uneven completion (for example, carpet updates needed in portions of the building). Prospective residents should inspect specific units and confirm any planned upgrades.

Notable patterns and guidance: The dominant positive themes are staff responsiveness, cleanliness, active programming, and on-site clinical/therapy resources. The most significant caveats are cost (including premium pricing and extra fees for certain services), variability in dining quality, and potential mismatches for residents who require daily, hands-on assistance. Families evaluating Esplanade Staten Island should (1) clarify what clinical and personal-care services are included in base pricing versus charged as extras, (2) sample meals and review menu cycles for fresh-produce and dietary accommodations, and (3) discuss current staffing stability and the facility’s experience with residents who have higher physical or cognitive-care needs. For active seniors who want a well-appointed, activity-rich environment with access to on-site therapy and medical providers, the community appears to be a strong option; for those who require constant hands-on care, additional verification of service levels and potential out-of-pocket supports is recommended.

    About Esplanade Staten Island

The staff at Esplanade Staten Island focuses on helping residents stay as healthy and active as they can, with on-site physical and occupational therapy, strength and balance classes, and a wellness center that keeps folks moving, while a team of nurses, doctors, podiatrists, and home care helpers remains on call if someone needs a bit more help. The facility has a strong security setup, with 24-hour reception and video surveillance plus fire safety directors, and each resident's room includes an emergency call system for added peace of mind.

Meals here are served in an elegant full-service dining room where you get three freshly prepared meals a day, including starters, soups, salads, entrees, and desserts, with a Sunday brunch and room service if you want to dine in private, plus there's a full-service bar and restaurant and even a banquet hall for family gatherings. Both short and long-term stays are available, and there are special programs for memory care and hospice or respite care, so individuals with different needs can find a suitable option. The staff are trained to care for older adults and to provide attentive assistance in a warm and homelike setting. This facility doesn't take pets, but family-owned management works to make life relaxing and comfortable, and people can be as independent as they're able, joining as many of the activities and events as they wish. The building's clean and modern, the grounds are inviting, and the community offers tours so new residents and families can see the dining, programs, and apartments before choosing. Esplanade Staten Island aims to keep things simple and comfortable while giving seniors plenty of support and ways to enjoy their days, whether it's for independent living, assisted living, memory care, or more robust nursing services.
