    Upscale caring assisted living costly

I live here and, on balance, I'm glad I chose this community: the staff are warm, attentive and long-tenured, the building is modern, clean and well-maintained, dining is restaurant-style with flexible menus, and the location is very convenient to restaurants, friends and the hospital. I feel cared for most days - activities are engaging, transportation is good, and the overall atmosphere is home-like. The main drawbacks are very small rooms/showers, rising costs and billing headaches (not covered by Medicare), and occasional slow or inadequate responses to medical needs - they also can't provide skilled nursing. If you want upscale, caring assisted living and can afford it, I'd recommend it, but be aware of space limits, extra charges and potential care/communication lapses.

    About Brookdale New Hope

Brookdale New Hope provides assisted living, independent living, memory care, and skilled nursing care for seniors at 1680 S New Hope Rd, Gastonia, NC, out in a quiet suburban neighborhood just outside Charlotte. The community has been managed by Brookdale for over thirty years and serves different needs, adjusting care levels as health changes. Residents live in a place with landscaped grounds, walking paths, and gardens, so you'll see places to sit outdoors and flowers to enjoy, and there's a patio with a big wooden table for sitting outside on nice days. Inside, there are private and semi-private rooms, some set up apartment-style or as suites, and the rooms have comfortable beds, armchairs, and plenty of natural light, with kitchens that can have a microwave, refrigerator, and sink if wanted, wall-to-wall carpeting, private baths with step-in showers, and each space has its own thermostat. Communal areas include a common living room, a dining room for group meals, and a well-stocked library with large and regular print books, books on tape, and comfortable seating for folks who want to read or just relax. Brookdale New Hope offers dining with help from chefs and meal planners who shape nutritious and tasty menus; people say the food's good and there are lots of options. There's a bistro for snacks and a salon with styling chairs and hair dryers if you want your hair done without going out. The facility is pet-friendly, so some residents keep their pets. Activities and entertainment are planned daily, and you might find games, hobbies, fitness classes, field trips, or social gatherings, with events and signature programs for mental, physical, and emotional wellness. The staff has a reputation for being joyful, kind, and helpful, and there's a warm, welcoming feeling in the community, which has earned various awards for its activities and meals. Caregivers handle housekeeping, laundry, and personal care like bathing, dressing, grooming, mobility, medication management, and assisted dining, and if needed, specialized care is available for those with Alzheimer's or dementia through memory care services that try to reduce confusion and keep residents safe, and skilled nursing is on site for higher care needs. Brookdale New Hope has health and safety features like emergency response access 24/7, and Brookdale HealthPlus® helps coordinate care for people with chronic issues like diabetes or high blood pressure, overseen by a registered nurse, making sure residents get wellness visits, immunizations, and screenings to help avoid unnecessary hospital trips. The building's set up with Wi-Fi and high-speed internet, there are transportation services for errands and outings, and parking is available in a parking lot. Residents' freedom and independence are valued, and decisions about care depend on ongoing assessments so folks get only the help they need, no more and no less. The law protects everyone from housing or employment discrimination based on orientation or gender identity, and there's a commitment to fairness and respect for all. Brookdale New Hope isn't currently listed for sale or rent on Trulia, and the specific exterior features and interior levels aren't all known, but the focus remains on care, comfort, and a sense of belonging, with real attention to making daily life as easy as possible for seniors.

    About Brookdale

Brookdale New Hope is managed by Brookdale.

Brookdale Senior Living Inc. (NYSE: BKD) is the largest senior living operator in the United States, managing over 640 communities with capacity for approximately 59,000 residents across 41 states and employing around 36,000 associates. Founded in 1978 and publicly traded since 2005, Brookdale solidified its market leadership through major acquisitions including American Retirement Corporation (2006) and Emeritus Senior Living (2014), making it the only national full-spectrum senior living company. Headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, Brookdale has topped the American Seniors Housing Association's ASHA 50 list and Argentum's largest providers list for multiple consecutive years.

The company's comprehensive care continuum includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs). Brookdale's signature Clare Bridge program, developed over 30 years ago by dementia-care experts, provides specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care through two distinct levels: Clare Bridge communities for comprehensive memory support and the Clare Bridge Solace program for advanced-stage dementia residents. The program is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association® for incorporating evidence-based Dementia Care Practice Recommendations and features secure environments, enclosed courtyards, Daily Path programming with six structured activities daily, and the InTouch technology platform offering personalized brain-stimulating games and therapeutic content.

Brookdale's holistic Optimum Life® wellness approach balances six dimensions—Purposeful, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, and Intellectual—implemented through signature programs including B-Fit (eight exercise class options), Brain Fit (mental fitness workouts), My Life Story (resident storytelling), EngagementPlus (interest-based connections), Growing Together (collaborative learning), and The Ageless Spirit (kindness and gratitude practices). The Embrace Family Partnership provides caregiver education and support for families of memory care residents.

The company's Brookdale HealthPlus® care coordination model, winner of the 2024 Argentum Best of the Best Award placing it among the top 1% of operators, is a technology-enabled healthcare service featuring dedicated RN Care Managers who proactively manage residents' health, coordinate care transitions, and help prevent avoidable hospitalizations. Communities using HealthPlus report 78% fewer urgent care visits, 36% fewer hospitalizations, and 63% more completed annual wellness visits. The Personal Solutions program delivers hygiene products, medications, and daily necessities directly to residents' doors with discreet packaging and monthly billing convenience.

Following a strategic divestiture of its home health and hospice operations to HCA Healthcare (completed December 2023), Brookdale now focuses exclusively on senior living operations while maintaining its position as the industry's largest operator, committed to its mission of enriching lives with compassion, respect, excellence, and integrity.
