    Compassionate staff excellent therapy welcoming

I had a very positive experience - staff were magnificent: compassionate, attentive nurses and amazing PCAs, with strong leadership from the Director of Nursing and Brandy. Therapy (PT/OT/respiratory) was phenomenal and helped my family member go home healthy; meals were great and the facility feels welcoming and supportive. Renovations and attentive administration mean I'd choose this place again for short-term rehab or long-term care.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Mt Airy Gardens Rehabilitation and Care Center receives a mix of positive and negative feedback, with particularly strong praise for its rehabilitation and therapy services and several operational concerns that families should evaluate during a tour. Many accounts highlight effective, hands-on therapy and warm caregiving, while other accounts raise facility-level issues around staffing consistency and cleanliness.

Care quality and clinical services: Therapy is a clear strength. Reviewers emphasize knowledgeable physical therapists, highly rated occupational therapy, tireless rehabilitation support, and capable respiratory care โ€” several reviewers indicated they would return for therapy services. Nursing and personal care assistants are frequently described as compassionate, nurturing, and attentive, particularly in the context of rehabilitation-focused stays. At the same time, there are concerns about inconsistent care quality outside of therapy hours: some comments describe gaps in attention and delays in responding to resident needs, with overnight coverage noted as an area of weakness.

Staff and management: Staff demeanor is often described as friendly, personable, and hardworking. Multiple accounts praise professional, pleasant interactions with therapy staff and certain administrative personnel. However, reviews reflect variability in administrative communication and frontline responsiveness; there are instances describing brusque or unhelpful administrative conduct. Management transitions appear to be ongoing, and the activities program is reported to have improved under new management, suggesting recent leadership changes are affecting operations.

Activities and programming: Activity offerings have been noted as improving, and reviewers appreciated an engaging approach and positive staff energy. For prospective residents interested in rehabilitation, the facilityโ€™s therapy-centric programming is a benefit. Families should ask about the current activity calendar and recent changes to confirm that improvements have been sustained.

Facilities and cleanliness: Comments on facility condition are mixed. Some reviewers describe well-maintained, clean areas and ongoing upgrades, while others raise sanitation and cleanliness inconsistencies in parts of the building. There are references to physical improvements underway, but the inconsistency in environmental upkeep โ€” including concerns tied to specific shifts or areas โ€” is a pattern worth verifying in person.

Dining and other services: Review summaries provided little specific information about dining, menus, or food-service consistency. Prospective residents and families should request sample menus, dietary accommodation policies, and recent satisfaction information during a visit.

Notable patterns and guidance for families: The dominant pattern is strong, recovery-oriented therapy and many compassionate caregivers, contrasted with variability in day-to-day operational consistency (cleanliness, night coverage, and administrative communication). For those seeking short-term rehabilitation, the center may be a good option given the reported strength of PT/OT and respiratory support. For long-term placement, families should schedule an on-site visit focused on overnight staffing, current sanitation practices, administrative responsiveness, and the sustainability of recent activity-program improvements. Asking for staffing levels by shift, recent survey or inspection results, and speaking with current families can help clarify whether the operational concerns have been addressed.

About Mt Airy Gardens Rehabilitation and Care Center

Mt Airy Gardens Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in North College Hill, Cincinnati, Ohio, is a nursing home and assisted living facility that takes in elderly and recovering individuals who need care, so there are both long-term and short-term stays, and they focus quite a lot on health, rehab, and assistance for those who can't always do things for themselves, seeing as folks get support with walking, wheelchairs, dressing, grooming, bathing, toileting, and all sorts of personal care. The place has 99 certified beds and counts an average of 84 residents a day, all overseen by a medical, nursing, and therapy team, and it's been managed by Airy Management since June 2023 with ownership by Airy Opco LLC. Rooms include private and semi-private layouts, with monthly costs running between $5,000 and $10,000, and they offer studio setups too. Individuals receive housekeeping, kitchenettes, maintenance, safety features like sprinkler systems, washers and dryers, and cable TV, and there's a dining room where meal and dining services are offered. Housekeeping and maintenance get handled by staff, with extra help for laundry and dry cleaning, while folks can also use salon and barbershop services on-site. Within the property, there's a game and activities room, guest parking, WiFi, a fitness center, and plenty of programs including social activities, arts and crafts, educational opportunities, and wellness options. Residents can schedule tours, either in-person or virtual, and the facility helps families with discharge planning and waiting lists, plus initial assessments to see what care's needed. There's a focus on safety with handicap accessibility and caregivers for those with more demanding needs, and nurses deliver 3.39 nurse hours per resident per day, though the reported nurse turnover rate comes out to 63.8%. Medical services cover podiatry, wound care, medication help, occupational therapy, nursing, and they provide memory care with as much focus as possible on safety and life quality for folks with Alzheimer's or dementia, as well as hospice and respite care. There is long-term care insurance information available, too. Rehab options are broad, covering folks who need help moving from hospital back to home, those who require sub-acute rehabilitation, and those truly dependent on skilled or intermediate nursing because of frailty or ongoing health problems. Some deficiencies have turned up in inspection reports-83 in total-with particular notes on nutrition, dietary needs, and care planning, and two infection-related citations are on record. Mt Airy Gardens holds a review rating of 3.6 out of 5 from 19 reviews and an average score of 6.3 out of 10, making it the 87th highest-rated care community in the Cincinnati area, and the staff aim to help residents reach as much independence as health allows, providing individual care plans for each person. Transportation services are available for getting around, and rooms are kept safe and accessible for all kinds of mobility.
