    Clean welcoming community; excellent management

I live here and have had a blessed, welcoming experience - clean, quiet, with friendly neighbors. Management and maintenance are excellent (LaCheryl is a gem): helpful, prompt with repairs, and always on top of things - they even helped when a 2-bedroom wasn't available. My mom loves bingo and dance nights; I highly recommend this professional, well-run community.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews for Stonebridge Manor are mixed, with distinct clusters of positive experiences and operational concerns. Many residents and visitors praise the on-site staff and maintenance teams for being helpful and, in some cases, providing prompt repairs and attentive service. Common-area presentation and an active activities program are also cited as strengths: social events such as bingo, dance nights, and neighborhood gatherings receive positive mention and contribute to a generally quiet, neighborly atmosphere for some residents.

At the same time, multiple reviews identify persistent facility-level problems that prospective residents should evaluate carefully. There are repeated pest-control concerns and sanitation/odor concerns reported in both unit and common areas. Building systems and equipment reliability is another recurring issue: reviewers describe frequent elevator and mechanical outages, unreliable washers and dryers, and problems with air-conditioning units that have affected carpeting and indoor odor. Trash storage and waste handling practices have been described as inadequate at times, which can compound sanitation concerns.

Maintenance responsiveness appears inconsistent. Several accounts praise prompt repairs and helpful technicians, while others describe delays measured in weeks or months for the same types of issues. This pattern suggests variability in turnaround depending on the problem or timing. Security and access-control systems also draw criticism: inoperable buzzer entry, dark parking areas, and intermittent entry-system failures raise practical safety and access concerns for residents and visitors.

Staffing and management present a mixed picture. Some reviewers single out individual employees for exemplary assistance and describe the front desk and office environment as welcoming and professional. Conversely, there are repeated notes about inconsistent phone communication, an unfriendly or unhelpful front office in some interactions, and broader concerns about staff conduct and how resident disputes are handled. More serious administrative issues appear in a small number of accounts: lease disputes, charges for repairs, and insurance or legal matters described by reviewers. These items are characterized here as allegations and should be investigated directly with management and corporate leadership.

Dining and day-to-day living show variability. Activities are a clear positive for residents who participate, but comments indicate meal service may not be regular or consistent for all residents; prospective residents should confirm the facility's dining schedule and meal policies. Apartment size and availability also matter—some noted that units are small and larger two-bedroom units may be unavailable, which could influence suitability depending on needs.

Recommendations for prospective residents and families: during a tour, inspect units and common areas for cleanliness and signs of pest-control measures; request documentation on pest-management practices and recent service. Ask for elevator and HVAC maintenance logs, typical repair turnaround times, and examples of how resident concerns are escalated. Test phone responsiveness and front-desk interactions in person and by phone. Review the lease closely for repair-billing policies, renewal terms, and dispute-resolution procedures. Finally, inquire about security measures (lighting, entry systems) and the activities calendar to confirm the aspects of community life that matter most to you.

    About Stonebridge Manor

Stonebridge Manor sits at 5432 Tidewater Drive in Norfolk, VA, and you'll see that it's a retirement community that's been around since 1981 with a total of 156 one- and two-bedroom apartments all with private bathrooms, some with patios or balconies, and it has options for both independent and assisted living for folks age 55 and older and those with disabilities. People like the pet-friendly rules and the chance to have a space that feels homey; residents can bring their own furniture and decorate as they like, which many find adds some comfort. The buildings are brick, multi-story, and have elevators, controlled access, handicap-accessible units, and enclosed walkways, so it's easy to get around for everyone. There's a clubhouse, library, activity and community rooms, laundry on site, landscaped grounds, sidewalks, and gathering spaces for neighbors to sit together, work on crafts, or talk over coffee. The staff are known to be cheerful and kindly, making an effort to check in on everyone, and many residents have remarked on the friendly feeling you get every day.

For those who like to keep busy, there's a full calendar with different activities, outings, and social programs that focus on mental, physical, and emotional well-being; there's even arts and crafts and regular community events. Stonebridge Manor has recognition in the community, like the Best of Senior Living and All-Star awards, which came because people appreciated good care and support. The property is close to the HRT bus line, making it easy for residents to get to appointments or shopping, and it sits near the I-64 entrance, so families can find it quickly. The kitchen staff put a lot of care into meals and work with nutritionists to make sure residents get good-tasting, balanced food. There are laundry rooms, 24-hour emergency maintenance, secure entry, and a safe environment for people at all different levels of care.

Stonebridge Manor offers independent living for people who mostly take care of themselves, assisted living for folks needing help with everyday tasks like bathing and taking medicine, and memory care for those with conditions like Alzheimer's or dementia, with trained staff and safety measures to keep everyone comfortable and prevent wandering. For people who stay at home, there are home care aides that provide companionship and help with daily things, but not medical care. The community supports an active lifestyle, encourages socializing, and lets people pursue old hobbies or try something new. The complex has 105,700 square feet and sits in the Norfolk-Lafayette River area within the Richmond-Tidewater market, and it allows people to lease for 12 months at a time with rent payment options that include private pay or personal checks. Utility details, property management info, and performance reports are always available, and veterans can find VA connections with Stonebridge Manor as well. The review score is 3.3 out of 7 reviews, showing honest and mixed feedback, which some folks find helpful when making a choice about where to live.
