    Spotless, compassionate memory care community

I placed my mother here and I'm very pleased - the facility is spotless and well-run, with a compassionate, patient, and dedicated care team. Memory care is exemplary, the layout is open with a visible kitchen and fenced outdoor area, and there are plenty of activities. I appreciate the company's mission and feel she's safe and treated with dignity; I highly recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews describe a facility with a clear set of strengths alongside notable operational inconsistencies. Positive feedback emphasizes compassionate, patient-focused caregivers, dedicated care teams, and strong memory-care programming; several families praised the dignity and patience shown by staff and characterized the environment as peaceful and well-aligned with the provider's mission. Physical spaces are frequently described as clean and well-maintained, with an open layout, visible dining/kitchen areas, and secure outdoor space that some families found appealing.

At the same time, reviewers identify recurring concerns about the consistency of basic personal care. Accounts indicate variability in assistance with bathing, dressing, and facial hygiene, which suggests uneven implementation of personal-care schedules and resident-assistance protocols. Linked to this are observations about staffing instability; turnover and inconsistent assignments appear to contribute to uneven daily care experiences.

Dining and nutrition emerged as an area of mixed impressions. Some reviewers appreciated the open-kitchen design and the ability to see meals being prepared, while others described interruptions in meal service and instances where expected meal provision was not met. This indicates a potential gap in meal-service continuity and in communication around substitutions or missed service. Dining logistics also raised social concerns for some families: restrictions or seating arrangements reportedly limited residents’ ability to mingle freely in the dining area.

Clinical responsiveness and family communication are additional areas of concern. Several families described delays in clinical attention for acute issues and delayed or inadequate notification to family members after incidents that required medical follow-up. These accounts point to weaknesses in emergency-response procedures and family-notification protocols. There are also allegations concerning resident property loss or theft; while these are individual claims, they highlight the need for clearer property-control practices and inventory safeguards.

Activity programming and day-to-day engagement appear uneven. Some reviewers noted robust activity options and an engaging campus layout, while others found activities limited or not readily accessible, suggesting variation between units or scheduling inconsistencies. Cleanliness and sanitation were generally praised in many areas but were described as inconsistent in others, so prospective families should assess specific units and common spaces during a visit.

Management and leadership are characterized as a mixed picture: some families found leadership responsive and the operation well-run, while others experienced unresponsiveness, delayed follow-up, or assurances that were not fulfilled. Given the combination of strong, compassionate caregiving reported by some and significant operational gaps reported by others, prospective residents and family members would be advised to visit in person, ask about staffing continuity, bathing and toileting schedules, meal-service protocols, emergency-response and family-notification procedures, property-control policies, and the specific activity calendar for the unit of interest before making a placement decision.

    About Cottages of Edgewood

Cottages at Edgewood sits in the small town of Edgewood, Washington, and it's made up of three cozy cottages that each house up to twenty residents, so altogether there's room for sixty people, which is a pretty big place by memory care standards, and those cottages sort of look and feel more like homes than bigger buildings, with kitchens, dining rooms, living rooms with fireplaces, and even their own laundry areas, so residents aren't lost in a crowd, and each cottage leads right outside to a big secure courtyard for walking, fresh air, and gardening, and the whole place is fenced in for safety. The building opened in 2015 and was built with safety and memory care in mind-the doors and windows have alarms, and staff keep an eye on things around the clock, with licensed nurses on site during the week and always available in emergencies, and everyone gets a personalized care plan from a director of nursing, created with the help of doctors and families, to fit each person's needs and keep up with the changes that can come with dementia.

The staff at Cottages at Edgewood specialize in memory care and have training in dementia and Alzheimer's, which means they know how to support residents who have trouble remembering, feel stressed, or get agitated, and besides that, they help with daily things like bathing, dressing, medications, insulin, high-level care needs, and even help with feeding or pureeing food if someone has trouble chewing. There's health programs that cover physical therapy, mental health support, rehabilitation, screenings, and they have care for diabetes, incontinence, or people who can't get around easily. When someone needs hospice care or a short respite stay, the community handles that too, so families can get extra help when it's needed, and there's licensed nurses, LPNs or RNs, taking care of the higher medical support. All rooms, whether private or shared, come furnished or can be set up with personal things from home, and every room has its own private or shared bathroom, air conditioning, internet, cable, and even client-controlled heat, along with hardwood floors and wheelchair access.

The dining options cover a wide range, including vegan, kosher, vegetarian, international dishes, meals made by a professional chef, pureed foods, and choices for people with special diets, and guests can join meals too-there's designated dining spaces and meals can be delivered to rooms if needed. Scheduled group activities focus on things that help with memory, like music therapy, arts and crafts, group discussions, and exercise, and residents can choose to be as involved or relaxed as they want, with quiet areas for unwinding and outdoor spaces with mountain and garden views. There are daily programs to maintain memory function, encourage socializing, and support independence, and everything, from the gardens to the patios and indoor walking areas, is designed to prevent wandering but still let people move around and enjoy a sense of freedom.

Transportation for appointments and community events is coordinated, families get education and support, and the facility partners with doctors, mental health pros, and hospice services as needed. The community has move-in help and staff check in regularly to make sure everyone's schedule and preferences are respected, but there isn't always much new information online since sometimes there are system errors with their online listings, so most people rely on direct visits or phone calls to learn more. Cottages at Edgewood holds certifications for adult residential care and enhanced adult residential care, is licensed for memory care, and follows Washington state rules to keep things safe and up to standard, and though ratings and reviews average about 4.0 on one site and 7.7 out of 10 overall, families tend to focus more on the staff's attention and the small, homey atmosphere. The whole place is built so residents with dementia can stay active, feel at home, and keep their dignity, all the while having the support they need.
