    Spotless welcoming home caring staff

I was impressed by how well-kept and extremely clean the place is - inside and out feels warm and welcoming with very friendly staff. My room is small but uncluttered and feels roomy; I could rearrange it and bring my mom's furniture. Meals are homemade by the caregiver/manager with a varied menu (Filipino dishes, spaghetti, hot dogs). The setting is serene on a quiet street near a park, though transportation is limited; there's also a brand-new lift chair.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment across the review summaries is strongly positive, with repeated emphasis on cleanliness, a welcoming atmosphere, and hands-on, friendly management and caregiving. Multiple reviewers highlight that the interior of Heart Of Joy AFH is extremely clean and uncluttered, with no noticeable odors and a generally roomy feel despite the mention of small private rooms. The home is described as well-kept both inside and out, contributing to an overall welcoming environment that reviewers found comforting and reassuring.

Care quality and staff engagement are clear strengths. Reviewers repeatedly mention a warm, friendly manager and staff, and note that meals are prepared by the caregiver/manager, which suggests a personalized, home-like approach to daily living. The menu is described as varied and home-style — reviewers specifically cite Filipino dishes alongside familiar items like spaghetti and hot dogs — indicating cultural variety and attention to resident preferences. The presence of a brand new lift chair was singled out as a positive detail that reflects attention to mobility and comfort needs.

Facilities and setting receive mostly favorable comments. The interior is described as uncluttered and roomy in communal areas, and the home sits on a quiet, serene street near a park that reviewers see as a convenient spot for outings. Reviewers also note the ability to rearrange a resident’s room and use a resident’s own furniture, which points to flexibility and a person-centered approach to room setup and personalization. These elements together create a homelike feel that many reviewers appreciated.

There are a few consistent concerns to be aware of. The most frequently mentioned drawback is the small size of the private room(s), which may be a limitation for residents who need more living space or larger furniture. Another important limitation cited is a lack of transportation, which could restrict off-site activities, medical appointments, or family visits despite the facility’s proximity to a park. Reviewers also describe the exterior appearance as average, implying that the interior upkeep outpaces curb appeal.

In summary, Heart Of Joy AFH is portrayed as a clean, well-maintained, and warmly managed small home with a strong emphasis on personalized, caregiver-prepared meals and a welcoming staff. Its interior cleanliness, lack of odors, and uncluttered communal areas are standout positives, as is the personal attention from management and the flexibility to personalize rooms. Prospective residents and families should weigh these strengths against the practical limitations of smaller private rooms, limited transportation options, and an unremarkable exterior. For those prioritizing a home-like environment, attentive staff, and varied home-cooked meals, Heart Of Joy AFH appears to be a very good fit; for those who need larger private spaces or reliable transportation services, it may be necessary to confirm how those needs would be addressed.

    About Heart Of Joy AFH

Heart Of Joy AFH sits at 510 East 75th Street in Tacoma, Washington, and stands as a small Adult Family Home with five licensed beds where residents enjoy a home-like setting since it's not a large nursing home and feels more like a family house, and you'll find that they provide several levels of care including independent living, assisted living, and board and care so folks who come here get help with daily activities, medication management, meals, personal care, and housekeeping, which suits many seniors needing some support with regular tasks. Their care team stays on site 24 hours a day, and the home accepts seniors with different support needs, such as those needing memory care, diabetes management, wound care, ostomy care, bariatric care, ventilator care, tracheostomy care, TPN support, hospice services, and behavioral health programs, so it covers a broad range of conditions, and they also have specialized programs for Parkinson's disease, traumatic brain injury, and mental health or developmental disabilities. Residents can have private, semi-private, or shared bath rooms, and the house allows pets too, so people don't have to leave furry friends behind, and there's support for insulin-dependent individuals and those requiring Hoyer lift, as well as 2-person transfer help. Joy Atienzo, a registered nurse with wide nursing experience, oversees the care, and there's a chef who prepares home-cooked, gourmet-style meals, so meals are planned for nutrition as well as taste. The house lets families visit from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, making it easier for loved ones to check in, and they focus on personalized care, looking at each resident's needs and abilities to help keep everyone safe and comfortable. The Adult Family Home is registered with DSHS and doesn't accept Medicare, so those looking for care must consider other ways to pay, but costs here tend to be lower than full-time nursing homes since care isn't acute. They offer respite care, too, which is useful for families needing short-term care solutions. Heart Of Joy AFH welcomes everyone, including LGBT+ seniors, and the house works to keep a welcoming indoor and outdoor environment, with a holistic approach aimed at improving quality of life while caring with love. For families needing help connecting with the right health services, home care, skilled nursing, or hospice referrals, this place helps with support and referrals. They also handle a lot of lab and compliance details, with access to lab contacts, data exports, specific lab director information, options to filter by lab types and volume, and connections with many lab facilities, though that's more of a unique feature not always relevant for every resident but is there for those who need it, and overall, Heart Of Joy AFH stands as a place where personalized, attentive care helps seniors maintain dignity and daily comfort in their later years.
